Worked on a 57 Ford with factory 312 Yblock that had a GM Cavalier center steer r&p, GM alternator, GM p/s pump, and Ford crank pulley and w/p. Each pulley was the double V belt groove type so each component had some leeway in the forward-back mounting. We have been switching to single plane serpentine for so long I'd forgot how hard the V belt pulleys, in several planes, are to get aligned exactly right. I think my thinking in 3D has left the theater.
I was mocking up the belt drive on my 327 and kept running into alignment issues. Adding power steering and A/C to a chassis not designed for it added to the limitations. I finally decided to run a serpentine drive, a call to the folks at March Performance and the pulleys I needed were on there way. I still wanted to have the look of a period correct belt drive so I opted to not use a tensioner. Time will tell if I did good.

Martin, I debated this but since all the components are Chevy (GM) I had to chose between Hipo or Spoon. If it needs moved I chose wrong and my feelings won't be hurt.
I'll never go back to v-belt on a custom build. Junkyards are full serpentine setups from a Chevrolet V-6 or V-8. All you need are heads with the accessory bosses in them. This precludes camel hump heads.

Evan, make that Ford run just like a Chevy- - - - -pull two spark plug wires off and throw 'em away! Jerry

52Carl, you're not gonna get mad at me for doing this, are ya??
Looks good! How much boost pressure will it handle before it shreds those belts? We usually ran a 3" wide Gilmer belt on the hemi-powered pull truck, but it had a 40% overdrive pulley system on it. Jerry

Jerry, I hope you don't get mad at me for this!! I'm not trying to rotate the planet with this little roadster. The engine is a '78 200 ci V6. Long story why, but it's the one I'm going to run. Pulleys are 1:1, though I originally wanted underdrive. Short answer? More for the nostalgia look than anything else. There is a reason they went from chain drive, to V-belt, to Gilmer!! Although that Potvin guy did things a little different.
No problem- - - -I sort of had an idea that was intended to be eye candy instead of max output. I have seen a 6-71 on a 394 Oldsmobile in a Willys coupe, driven by a single piece of #50 chain- - - -with no guard over it. The guy got really upset when the tech inspectors at Union Hill Drag Strip near Nashville DQ'ed the car and wouldn't let him run it! Jerry

Yeah, if you're going to have an accessory fail due to a broken belt, they may as well all fail at once. And don't even get me started on idler pulley bearings...
The rack and pinion on my daily driver Ram 1500 developed a severe fluid leak 300 miles from home. To keep the pump from locking up from running dry I installed a shorter serpentine belt and bypassed it. Manhandling the steering with no power assist all the way back was a real workout! Jerry

I'm just curious why you didn't just run a standard 2" or 3" blower drive belt? Can you get different sizes of pulleys for party days? Not saying there is anything wrong with it .

To me the biggest selling points for serpentine belt setups for small blocks with A/C, power steering, and alternator is avoiding belt/pulley alignment issues which can be a nightmare, and the fact that this "one belt" is available at every FLAPS in the nation. Multiple belts? Not so much.
