I just purchased a 67-72 steering colunm at a swap meet yesterday. I'm wanting to go through it and replace bearings and contact as needed. I've checked out CPP and they have some items that I might be able to use, however, is there a vendor out there that carries a rebuild kit?

Have you tried NAPA? Also Grumpy's Truck Parts in Phoenix. Impala Bobs in Phoenix.

Is it a tilt column? If so, you will need a few special tools to take it apart. Namely a lock plate compressor tool and a pivot pin puller. The lock plate tool threads onto the end of the shaft, and compresses the plate down on the spring. This allow yoy to remove the snap ring so that the upper part of the column can be removed. You can get this tool at the flaps. The pin remover is a special puller that you need to take the pivots out. This is the only way to get access to the tilt mechanism as you need to remove the upper part of the joint to access it. This is more of a specialy item, I think OTC makes it. I got mine from Mac tools for about $12. One tip-take the 4 bolts that hold the tilt mechanism out and give them a good dose of RED locktight. Then tighten them up really good. Those bolts coming loose is the cause of the dreaded GM "Floppy Column" syndrome. These columns aren't hard to service if you have the correct tools.
