It was Steve. He was known by his cohorts to have flair. He appears to have been left handed, based on where he started the letter (thick end) and wrote it backwards compared to how a right handed person would.

The underside of my hood has a #3 on both hood halves. Looks like what they would write to the 2 matching halves. I always thought it was pretty cool that it was still there like it was drawn on yesterday.
Mine on the passenger side upper cowl (hidden by hood and not seen when hood is up) shows where somebody wrote with their finger in wet primer the words Sun Beige in printed letters about 1.5 inches tall. That's the color it originally was. What is interesting is that even though the truck has been painted other colors before I got it, nobody ever sanded that out. The two times I've painted it in the 40+ years I've owned it, neither have I. Currently I'm in the process of painting it what I'd call a lipstick red...close to Chevy Rally Red but a shade brighter.
