I’m not looking for specific values on parts of 235’s more if there are any parts that should be pulled because people are looking for certain parts of a 235. I hope that makes sense. When I purchased my 54 I basically got two and a half engines with it. I’m going the 350 route so the engines are going to be surplus to my needs. I know that as a whole the engines don’t bring a lot of money. I’ve posted them for sale already in the hopes that someone will be able to use them and give them life again. If no one is interested they’ll end up scrapped. I’m wondering if there are any parts I should pull before I scrap them if it comes to that. I’ll pull the valve covers as a wall hanger but other than that is there something that is in demand that I should pull if it gets to the point of scrapping? Thanks

Hi Adam,
Thanks for thinking about this. There are parts which will be of value, however the cost of shipping could make those more of a local interest item than for somebody in say Texas or Oklahoma. A few things are unique and come to mind as items people occasionally are looking for: the front mount piece (which mounts to the block and sits behind the cam gear. Every so often somebody is searching for one of those. Generator mount. Once a year or so I run across somebody looking for one of those. The generator and starter. Getting harder to find those it seems. The bell housing. Every so often somebody is looking for one. There is a heat riser spring on the exhaust manifold...if you can carefully remove that once in a while somebody wants one. And very infrequently somebody will be looking for a harmonic balancer, flywheel, intake/exhaust manifold...and if you by chance got the later (slightly higher compression) head, those are popular. Jerry was working on distributor conversion scheme a year or so ago. I sent him all the ones I had and don't know if that is ongoing. I'm certain I'm forgetting something which will occur to me later on. Maybe others will come along with other ideas. Thanks again.

If you've got a 1954 or early 55 235 block, peoiple use them to replace 216's in earlier production trucks like the ones from the 1940's and early 50's. The water pump is in the correct position to make the fan line up with the radiator correctly. Late 55 to 62 engines need a relocating adapter to run the high mount water pump. I've seen outrageous prices on Ebay for good condition stovebolt rocker arm and shaft assemblies. Ditto for cylinder heads with the "848" casting number- - - - -1956 or 57 to 62 or so.

The exhaust manifolds are a good item if the heat riser valve is OK. The truck air cleaners are good sale items. The carbs are worth something.

Thanks for all the thoughts guys. Sounds like there’s definitely some parts that shouldn’t get scrapped if it comes to that. As far as the years of the engines I’m not sure. I haven’t looked for all of the casting marks. The one does have a paper tag on it that has 55 on it. Wether that’s right or not I’m not sure. I do know that both have the 3836848 numbers on them so it sounds like those are keepers and possibly wanted. The truck is an early 54. The engine in the truck is missing basically the head on up. Looks like they took it apart and than stopped many years ago. Again, thanks for the thoughts on the parts guys.

What is the Engine Serial Number that is stamped into the block at the rear of the distributor (on each engine/block)?
