What is the size of the spare tire that came original on our trucks? I "assume" the wheel was the same size/width..?

Around a 16x7 wheel same as the others.

| | | | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 296 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 296 | So...I just mounted a brand new 215/70/R16 onto a factory rim, and it still will not fit under the bed of my truck. The crossmember hits the sidewall of the tire before you can raise the spare tire holder/carrier up and fasten with the large nut. I've moved and re-arranged the tire as much as you can, it simply will not fit.
My truck is a '53 model, which has the spare tire carrier angled at a 45 degree angle, unlike the earlier trucks that have the spare tire carrier that comes straight out the back and J-hooks onto the bumper.
What am I doing wrong?
