Recently, I was pleasantly surprised to find that a stock 235/75/16 tire on a factory wheel would not fit under the bed of my 3100.
What is the size of the spare tire that came original on our trucks? I "assume" the wheel was the same size/width..?

235/75 must be too fat?

Not sure what original is... I've got a 215/85/16 under the back of my 3100 burb.
Around a 16x7 wheel same as the others.

So...I just mounted a brand new 215/70/R16 onto a factory rim, and it still will not fit under the bed of my truck. The crossmember hits the sidewall of the tire before you can raise the spare tire holder/carrier up and fasten with the large nut. I've moved and re-arranged the tire as much as you can, it simply will not fit.

My truck is a '53 model, which has the spare tire carrier angled at a 45 degree angle, unlike the earlier trucks that have the spare tire carrier that comes straight out the back and J-hooks onto the bumper.

What am I doing wrong?

Can you swap out the bolts for longer ones front and back to give you more room for your fatter than stock tire?

I'm going to look at it more tomorrow, that might work.
