Looking to replace the front and rear engine mounts on the truck... I have some information, but would like to confirm. I also will be using (if possible) old stock, since most new rubber I have seen turns to pudding withing a few months, especially in the Florida heat... Unless anyone has part numbers for new replacements, I probably should trust old stock.

Front: GM 3657520 Rubber mount only, no metal plates...

Rear: GM 3692956 According to the only book I have, but the truck actually has

GM 60869, nowhere to be found in my 29-51 book... or also GM 3702173 can be used?

Thank you

Philippe,
It is great you have a parts book, but there is a site hosted by Keith Hardy that has additional manuals, called Old Online Chevy Manuals. Here is a link from the 1929-1954 manual that may help.
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/parts/1929_54/095.HTM
You will find that your rubber front mount 3657520 should go with a plate, shield and retainer; all of these are metal. These support the rubber mount, and shield it from engine oil. That rubber mount is not to be used alone. Be sure to look at the next page which has these parts listed as being correct for trucks going back to 1937. It also shows that the rear mount 3702173 can be used on your truck.

The front mount can be hard to find used or NOS. The vendors sell reproductions of these parts that are close enough to the originals to be useful.
Good Luck,
Kent

Hello Kent,

I just found GM 365720 and you're absolutely correct. That number is a complete assembly that includes all plates, bolts, and the rubber mount... Also if I am to interpret the book correctly, the original number for the rubber mount only would be GM 606427?...

Great news on GM 3702173 rear mount, but the book also mentions GM 3692956, yet I did not see that listed on the old car manual...Were you ble to find anything on the original number GM 60869? A compilation of some common GM part number changes over the years would always help, especially for the pre-war stuff...

I interpret the book as 365720 is representing only the rubber; the complete assembly is 606427. Your picture showing the box label does not appear to me to be original GM packaging. Perhaps that label is someone's interpretation of the numbers and is perhaps wrong.

Also, between the parts book you have and those on Keith Hardy's site there are missing years. I think it is possible the original mount on your truck, part # 60869 became obsolete and is not represented in the later books, because they didn't want to offer that part # anymore for whatever reason. Some one with more automotive parts knowledge than I might be able to add more coherent thoughts at this point.

I have had good luck and good performance with the aftermarket mounts sold by the vendors on the two trucks that I have removed the engines, my '37 and '50. I replaced front and rear mounts on both trucks.

Ding-ding-ding! You are correct again sir! I got carried away by the nice packaging, but you raise one key point. It is not the original GM box, therefore whatever is shown cannot be verified as such... My first instinct was the same as yours, but got excited seing the NOS parts!..:)

Your thoughts regarding the original rear mount GM 60869 also make sense to me... I did find a casting and part number cross section in my book along with some deleted numbers but I did not find this one... I t has to be on a 39-40 book for sure... I just like to see the part number references and changes over the years...

Even though Steele rubber is pricey, I will check their listings for mounts. I know that their rubber is top notch and if not mistaken US made...
