The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Big Bolts 1958 COE with big back window

I ran across this old rig out in N.M. Things don't rust away out there. It has been sitting in the brush for 14+ years I know it is not really a COE. Actually a LCF. But the big back window is why I drug it back home. I think it is a cool truck. Really like the way the top of the front fenders hinge out.
Have no plans for it right now since I am in the process of re-doing a 37 T-14 pickup. Maybe some day I will make a hauler out of it.[img]http://[/img]
Anyone have a parts book for this 58 GMC COE?

those are cool, actually not considered a COE, but an LCF (Low Cab Forward). That might help in your searches for a manual or parts book.

Actually it's not an LCF as that's a Chevrolet term, it's called a GMC Model "F" ...

Is it a V8 or 6-cylinder?

One could get a V8 in a GMC in the 50's. It was a Pontiac V8. They didn't use Chevrolet engines. In the early years(36-37) it was an Oldsmobile and then they used Pontiac. Later the made there own in line 6

I was talking about GMC F models, I know '50's conventionals came with Buick, Olds, Pontiac V-8's.

I don't know about the Buick & Olds engines. I thought they were all Pontiac. I ran across a "F" model like mine with a V8 Pontiac. ( original truck) A friend of mine has a 58 pickup with a V8 Pontiac. His dad bought it new in 1958. ( still sitting in the woods rusting away)

What did the early 1950s GMCs have?

Early '50's GMC COE's were holdovers from the '40's with big block 6's, 318-503. Then came the 500 and 600 series. Spanky might have additional info.

Ed, I'm pretty sure GMC never used a Buick engine, but Chevrolet did (the 322 Nail Head) in their 1956-57 Series 9 & 10 trucks/school buses and them in 1958-59 in just the school buses.

I doubt he has. These trucks are not waterproof. The only folks trying to sail them are the Cubans. If you meant sell it, that question is against Stovebolt rules.
