Started the rewiring in my 49 3600 and realized I never was sure how the ignition switch is actually supposed to mount? The bracket in the picture, when I got the truck, was just on the floor and the ignition switch was hanging by its wires.
I've seen pictures that show the switch in different locations; I had installed it in that hole above where I'm holding the bracket and it fits fine. But what is right, and if the switch does go in the bracket, what goes in that big hole in the dash?? There is also a small hole in that bracket - I read somewhere a light goes there?
Any information on that is appreciated! Thanks

Interesting... that curve doesn't match the curve of the dash which throws me too (it's the reverse curve - meaning that can't fit flush, or even bolt up, in that position)
Also doesn't explain what would then fill the hole in the dash? Unless maybe someone drilled that hole after - quite possible. I've seen photos of these trucks with the ignition in both that bracket, and in the dash.

Bracket fits under dash with switch sticking through hole in dash. If you look under side of dash beneath ignition switch hole you will see 2 holes for mounting bolts
Maybe I should say behind dash. Rounded part of bracket will match rounded part of dash small hole in bracket for light socket
Ahhhhhhh OK thank you!!! That starts making sense
