I was missing a brake pedal return spring (previous owner used a bungie cord tied to the steering column). I ordered this spring: https://www.classicparts.com/1947-59-Brake-Pedal-Return-Spring/productinfo/71-294/

What I received looks like the spring in the catalog, just under 5" long.

My issue is, the mounting diagram from the factory assembly manual, shows this connecting from the lower pedal assembly to the rear of the master cylinder mounting bracket. That is a heck of a long way for a spring of this size to cover, and I don't see how this is possibly the correct size spring.

So my question is this: Did I get the wrong spring? If so, does anyone have a source on replacing spring #3653155 (id# from the manual)?

If it IS the right spring and I'm missing something... any tips on installing it?

That's the correct spring...5" long, 30 coils.

The long hook goes to the bracket and the short hook to the pedal. I think it's easier to hook the pedal first and then hook the bracket. You may have to be creative with a tool to hook the bracket...I think I used a pair of 90* angled needle nose pliers to hold the hook while I stretched it over the top of the bracket.

Thanks for confirming, Mike. I think I'm going to have to go hit the gym to get that spring stretched into position. Or get some friends that can lift more than a 12oz can of beer.
