Truck is a 1969 C60 with a 427TD. Is there a way to adjust how sloppy the shifter is on a spicer 5756-B. It's not terrible but it's just sloppy enough in the stick to be slightly bothersome. I have an identical spare transmission I got during another purchase. That one while sitting on the ground seems to be just a little bit tighter while moving the shifter around.

I've had this trans out 2 times. Once to replace the ring gear on the flywheel and once to replace the engine. She's running like a champ now and I'm getting picky about small things.

Does that trans have an Al shift tower with steel pins on each side that shifter pivots on?
If so, oversized pins can be installed, or a steel ring outside the Al housing can be made to hold the pins.

I'm not sure what an AI shifter is, googling it seems like it. Hopefully this picture works to verify.

Hy Pvmt-Pndr, I believe Ed is asking if the shift tower is made of aluminum. Another vote for spelling out all the words in our posts, I never learned shorthand or reading code, sometimes it can be very frustrating to try and figure out what people are trying to convey.

Ahhh well that would make a lot of sense. I figured Al was some sort of style tower. In that case no it is a cast iron tower.

Even with the iron tower, the pins can be loose, they are short, like 1/2" and very small wear amounts can allow the shifter to wiggle hugely from side to side. The notches/keyways in either side of the pivot ball portion of the shift lever can wear too. Those areas are pretty common trouble spots for any top shifter trans.

Thanks. I'll tear into my spare trans and get an idea of what you guys are talking about since it's convient on the floor.
