I put a new clutch in my truck last spring and have been driveing it every day sinse.When we had the minus 25 degree weather last week the pedal went in hard and came out slow.Now its doing it again .It goes in hard and only comes back abought 5 inches and i have to pull it back with my toe.I t seems to be engageing fine and ii dont hear any noises.I dont feel any vibration like a bad throwout bearing.I dont feel any grabbing with the transmission engaged and the clutch depressed.Any idea to what may be causeing this?

Have you checked your linkage and return spring? Is the pivot on the linkage greased? The zerk is a bit hard to get to, not everyone sees it.

ever thought of moving to a warmer climate?
you prolly move a bit stiffer in -25* weather too!

I would bet the grease that is captured between the throwout and the input sleeve is real thick at
-25 degrees. The return spring is probably not strong enough to compensate. I'm suprised your driving these old trucks at -25.. The heaters
have alot to be desired. Your defintely a die hard.

Well squeeze,i must admit ive thought abought moveing,but then the temp goes to +25 and all is well agin.L.O.L.Today was +27 when i went to lunch and when i shifted from first to second the pedal poped back up and woks easy again.Im geusing either the grease was frozen if theres any in there or it got water in there and froze.Tomorow im getting out the grease gun.Brent, its definetly an adventure.The foam seat is solid,like siting on a brick.Tires are solid and shocks dont seem to do much.Then theres the fun of hopeing the vaseline in the wipers warms up enough so the wipers work.Geting it started is fun although i cheated quite a few times and carryed a 12 volt booster pack.I was only late for work one day when the booster wouldnt turn it over fast enough to start and i had to put my 6 volt charger on high for over an hour before i got it started.I put in new plugs that night and havent had a prroblem sinse.I will say those first 7 seconds when youre looking at the oil guage waiting[hopeing] to see oil presure are always a little nerve wracking.But ya know,i wouldnt give up driveing my 51 daily for any thing.

What does that little - in front of the 25 mean? We aren't allowed to use that around here. Our grease will usually run out of the grease gun 11 months of the year. But I guess the bright side is that I do understand temperature readings with 3 digits. You are tough. At 35 I think I will freeze.

I live in Vermont and I can tell you the cold is Hell on equipment. Sounds like the grease in your cluth linkage is getting stiff. Probably old too. When this happens it gets hard and doesn't lube very good. Grease it plenty and try to push the old grease out. May have to warm it a little to soften the old stuff. Otherwises the new stuff may find a way out and not necessary push all the old grease.

Slow, give that poor ole motor a break, install a block heater. You might give it a little lube after you have run it and it's all warm and toasty. A better grade of grease also might help. Conklin makes a grease called Rhino, good stuff. I'm glad to hear someone is using their bolt in the winter. Have fun. Mike
