so ive decided id like to upgrade my 283 to a 350. figured the easiest way to do this is just to order a crate motor from jegs or summit, but was just wondering if there was anywhere to buy cheaper than ~1400 plus shipping. id like it new or remanufactured i guess. just want something simple that i can drop in and have it work well. i also saw this website called chevy350engines.com has anyone ever dealt with them? and also a buddy of mine mentioned some website like enginejunk.com or something but i cant seem to find it. he was just telling me it was cheaper and you get more for your money than jegs or summit. thanks.

general motors sell crate motors also of varying power ranges. I think they also come with a bit of a warranty.

if there is a dealer near you, it might be something to check out.

also check out the parts links page here at the bolt:

Check the price at a couple of Chevy dealers, my buddy found $150 difference between 2 dealers only 7 miles apart. Brian

Yep, buy from a GM dealer...not just a Chevy dealer but from a GM dealer. The prices will vary so do some shopping for the lowest cost wink .

Jegs & Summit both carry an extensive line of Crate Motors, including Edlebrock - prices vary all over the map !

Not done business with them since they changed hands, but a few years back they had great prices and service. And they ship anywhere.

Cheers,
mark.

Go with a G.M. dealer. Youll be happier down the road if a problem ever arises. Its worth the extra couple hundred bucks...........

Try Jasper motors for a engine. They got a warranty 3 years or 75,000 mi what ever comes first++++ pay all labor cost to change motor if anything goes wrong++++ they have automatic trannys with the same warranty.crate engines start around $1300. an up plus core.they deliver to your door or a friends shop. They build and dino test these engines before sold

Local dealers can't seem to get the best prices. It's probably because they don't work in volume. There are a few large dealers that advertise crate motors that do have good prices. Sallee in CA is one. I was looking for a RamJet 350 and found the best deal at Apple Chevrolet in York, PA. Ask about shipping and where they'll delivery. Mine was put on the floor of my garage. You may have to pick others up at a local distribution center.

I buy the basic Goodwrench 350 in the K.C. area for about $1400 plus tax. Most large metro areas have 1or2 dealers that sell in volumn like Jerry is talking about. You could pick it up there or some have delivery service to ouylying areas. It seems shipping would expensive & inconvenient. A big truck shows up at your place & expects you to get it off the back of the truck. Dan-pa is correct about Jaspers. They have a good engine & warranty but for the Chev. v-8,s I prefer the Goodwrench.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
