I purchased this truck and the title says it’s a 1937 Chevy truck, but the grill appears to be from a 1938 Chevy truck. I need replace the hood because the side panel hinges were removed. I want to make sure everything lines up, so do purchase a hood for 1938 Chevy truck or 1937 Chevy truck? I have not been able to find hoods for 1938. Please see pictures? What year is this trucks grill and what year is this trucks hood?

Thanks

Sure looks like a 37 to me. Its definitely not a 38 as it looks nothing like mine. There's very little difference other than the grill and grill shell between 37 and 38.
Go to the top of the page and punch on Gallery, there are plenty of pics of all years there.

Grill bars on a ‘37 Chevy are vertical instead of horizontal. Could this be a GMC?

Rotero, After looking at a bunch of pics you may be right about it being a 38 grill and hood. I think what threw me off is the angle of your pic, the head light blocks the part of the grill that has a bit of a curve in it. And Sparkys right about the vertical bars on a 37 verse horizontal on the 38. Its always possible the truck is actually a 37 that someone has put a 38 grill shell and hood on at some point. Sorry if I added any confusion.

There is a curve to the grill that made me suspect that it was a 1938 grill shell. Is the grill shell the only difference between the 1937 and 1938? I am have a huge gap between the hood and the shell.

Thanks, I just noticed that bars are also incorrect. This might explain some of my alignment issues. See picture in next reply.

The 1929-1942 Chevrolet Master Parts Catalog shows the hoods have different parts numbers for each year.

Pretty sure that is a 38 hood. The top front of the 37 is quite different. I suspect that the missalignment is due to the grill shell and maybe the front fenders not being mounted correctly?? Possibly mounted to far forward some how. In looking at the pic it looks like the fender is hanging off the front of the running board, I think it should be even. Is this body mounted on a stock frame or some thing newer???

It is mounted on an S10 frame. The previous owner did not know the exact year, but had success with replacement parts for 1989.

Ah ha I thought that might be the case. So I suspect what ever brackets and such that were fabed to marry the body to the frame leave a bit to be desired hence the poor alignment, or they may have shifted the front fenders foward a bit to center the wheel/tire in the opening which has caused the misalignment of the hood to grill shell gaps. It looks like the grill shell is sitting at a bit of an angle with the top laid back some. Don't know if you could move the bottom back to straighten it up or not. Or if its possible to shift the fenders back closer to were they belong if that would cure the problem and still have the tire to fender relation look ok.
