is it possible to have a 1955 gmc or chevy with a stock closed drivetrain?

My understanding is that the '55 1st series chevy's were the first to go to the open drivetrain (that is what I have). I don't know about the GMC's.

55 1st series half tonners have open driveline? Gee, I wonder why they did that for just a 6 month production. Maybe they were out of torque tubes early.
