Hello I have a 1947 3100 half ton with a 1955.2nd 235 engine, the 1947 bell housing, and has the original rear end. Later I plan to swap it out for 3.55 to 1 ring and pinion.
A guy is selling this transmission for $350 and I need help with ID and if it would work for my truck?

'47 could be non'syncro 4 speed, a good trans. But 420(synchro) would be more useful. Price sounds high.

That's an SM-420...

L292 is the date code

L = December
29 = Day
2 = Year (1952 or 62 ???), that casting number was used from 1948-63.

So it is synchronized? Would it bolt up to the ‘47 bell housing?
If it’ll work for my truck I’ll try to talk him down on the price.
I been looking for a good transmission but all I’m finding is junk lol.

Novak in SLC make kits for 420's, although some synchro are no longer available.

Those are good transmisisons, but I wouldn't pay $350 for one unless it was rebuilt and comes with the paper work and a warranty.

Good used ones aren't to hard to come by for $50-$100 where I come from

Liquidated my projects
Now looking for a decent '47-'55.1 3100, 3600, or 3800

Being for a torque tube rear will add a little (they are a little harder to find), but not three to four times as much!
