Hi folks.
I'm reassembling my 1958 Chevrolet 3200 Fleetside and I'm having problems installing the original electric wiper motor along with the original AM radio.

My original Chev cab was really rusty, and I managed to get a replacement cab from what I think was a 55 GMC. Bonus big back window with all the stainless trim! I had to relocate the lower hood hinge bolt on the firewall, and I replaced the GMC dash with my Chevrolet dash. The old Chev cab was sent for scrap metal, so I can't refer back to it.

Now I'm finding that the mounting holes for the wiper brackets are in there OK, but the electric motor bumps against the air plenum sheet metal. The wiper motor hangs down lower than it should, and there is no way that the AM radio can fit under it. The only thing I can figure out is that the newer cab must have had an extra indent to accommodate the electric wiper motor, instead of the vacuum wiper assembly that would have been standard in a 55 GMC.

Anyone with a similar experience? If you have a TF with original electric wipers, do you see a bump in the sheet metal when you look through the outer air grill at the bottom of the windshield? Of if you have a empty cab you can look at from the inside?

For the moment, I've fabricated some new brackets that relocate the wiper assembly rearwards, closer to the dash panel and it seems to work OK, but it's a bit tight when the wipers go into the park position.

John.

When God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his workthis is a gift of God. He seldom reflects on the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart. Ecclesiastes 5:19-20

55-57 trucks used a different electric wiper motor than a 58/59. 55-57 also uses a cable operated switch vs an electric switch on the later trucks. I believe the mounting is different as well.

GMC’s are the same 55 to 59. Chevrolet trucks from 55 to 57 will interchange but they had different part numbers on them and they were a little bit different design but they’ll all bolt up. 58/59 are the same on Chevrolet but different than 55 to 57.

In other words, it's not just a simple swap over.
