I recently purchased a running 1962 Grumman Olson kurbside,

Mechanically everything seems fine other than a sticky accelerator pump and leaking master brake cylinder.

I'm sure other issues will pop up but for now I want it to be able to stop before it can go.

As far as I have been able the find is this replacement cylinder:

https://www.partsgeek.com/gbproduct...o5klPR2QfZlDLJLnMgbvJQPO5OhoCUPIQAvD_BwE

It's for a 1961 till 66 P30 chassis (I have no confirmation that this is the correct chassis other than that multiple sources have said so) and seems to have the same three bolt pattern. But 133$ is really steep for something that usually around 50/60 bucks. (I understand that demand for these are way low) eventually I would like to overhaul the brake system to something more modern. But due to time constraints I need it mobile buy the end of may 2020.

My question is are there any other Master cylinders that will swap out from perhaps other makes. I see ones listed for Ford from the same era that have what looks to be a similar bolt pattern for a third of the price.

Any knowledge is useful due to the fact that I am very new to all of this.

Hy Grizzlynaut, welcome, the master cylinder I come up with for a 1/2 ton P series 1960 to 62 is Raybestos part number MC 34403, that is a 1 1/8" bore and uses a two bolt mounting which is offset $42.89 at RockAuto. According to my brake parts catalogue the same master cylinder is used on the C series pickups as well 1960 to 62, hope that helps.

I don’t know if your 1 ton is different than a 1/2 ton but the M/C in the photo looks a lot like the one I removed from my C-10 when I converted to power brakes.

Thanks 3B, it really looks like its a 3 bolt. I'll be back out there tomorrow. I could be very wrong on the chassis designation.
There isn't much clear information about these around. I'll look into the c-10 master aswell.

Welcome to the Stovebolt wave

Check if there is a casting number on the MC...my book shows 1955-66 D-D as being 1-1/8" dia, cast # 5454736, p/n 5454644.

Is your truck a manual or automatic?

Mike B smile

Hy Grizzlynaut, I apologize I gave you information for a 1/2 ton P series 1960 - 62, the number I came up with for the one ton is Raybestos part number MC21918 $127,79 at RockAuto. That master cylinder does have a three bolt mounting flange and the GM part number was 5454644 sorry for the incorrect information, I hope this new information helps.

I was able to do an Indiana Jones style paper rubbing in the narrow space between the cylinder and the wheel well.
It's indeed a 1-1/8" dia, cast # 5454736. Thanks Mike B and 3B I'll be ordering one shortly smile

Have you checked it out for pits. Most of the time you can put a kit in yours.

I was thinking that this was old enough for a kit but I haven't been able to locate any.

Or will any 1-1/8" bore kit do?

It has to be a kit that is listed for that cylinder. The same kit will fit many applications. Any parts store should be able to supply it.

So I dropped by Napa in search of a rebuild kit and lo and behold they had the entire unit for just $48!

Thanks everyone for your help! if I ever get around to modernizing the system I'll be sure to do a write-up or something.

You probably should start a new thread if you want to talk about alternators, post a picture of what you have and I am sure you will get lots of help.
