I want the truck to have a very low stance!! besides changing the front end to a clip Is there any thing else I can try. I love this hobby but two kids means a low buget!! please any help would be great, | | | | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 4 Junior Member | Junior Member Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 4 | I went with mono springs and low profile tires on my 53 GMC and it lowered 3 1/2" to 4" from stock. Rides great and no clearance problems. Also added sway bar. | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 | 48speedshop,
Could you put your feelers out for a dropped front axle. This would probably be the most cost effective way to lower the front end.
I would consider the attempts describes above as unsafe.

I think it cost me about $300 at the time. It sits nice and low in the front and it doesn't have the clearance issues that you encountered with flipping the axle on top of the springs. The one gotcha is you need to heat and bend the steering arms down so that the tie rod will clear the leafs springs. You will also need to shorten the tierod because the dropped axle will move the tires inward slightly(no clearance issues though) Here's a shot of how my truck sits: http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c13/rsg2506/dcp_0007.jpg -Rich | | | | Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 348 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 348 | put all the leaf springs back like stock and remove the stock rubber cushion put one like a 3/4 ton that mounts on the frame that should increase your axle to frame clearance | | | | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 Bolter | Bolter Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 | I have patricks front and lowering stuff on my 52, works well for me.. here is their link click here Redryder pixMy HotrodA veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to The 'United States of America', for an amount of "up to and including my life."I am fighting cancer and I am winning the fight | Pain is part of life; misery is an option. | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 3 Junior Member | Junior Member Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 3 | I had mine dropped by loudpedal on the HAMB, also classic performance products sells a drop axle | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 74 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 74 | Just an idea, but what would happen if you pulled all the leaves except 1 or 2 and added an air over leaf type setup? That should allow you to drop it down low for shows and air up for driving. Then again, I have no idea whether it would allow enough room to actually steer. | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 60 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 60 | I LIKE THE DROPPED AXLE APPROACH. I WOULD RETHER USE A SET OF DROPPED STEERING ARMS IF THEY COULD BE FOUND. GOOD LUCK AND SEND PICTURES, | | |
