I am rewiring my 47 panel. It was fitted with turn signals years ago and has signal front and back signal lights installed. Where I’m getting confused is how to wire up the stop light in the back panel door to be in sync with the two signal lights when applying the brakes and illuminate with lights on. I know this should be simple but it’s driving me insane right now. I don’t have a wiring diagram for this particular application. Any help is greatly appreciated!

It is simple but you will have to explain what you have and what you want.
1. Do you have one light on each side of the rear as turn signals and one tail light on the door?
2. Do you have other red lens tail lights on each side, in addition to the door tail light?
3. What do the turn signals in the rear look like, how many bulbs? Are bulbs dual filament? Lens color?
4. What do you want to happen, what lights do you want to blink and which to show stopping? Describe where each light is located.
5. What brand/model of turn signal switch do you have?

A couple of good rear pics would sure help. I will describe the wiring after I'm sure what lights there are and what you want them to do.

Yes, one light in door and one on each side of rear of truck. All dual filament. Lens color is red. Want each side light to blink. I would like all three lights to illuminate when brake applied, but not a priority. Just original door light is fine. My turn signal is new, 6 volt after market with the hazard light feature.

You are going to wire up everything per the switch instructions except the door light. It will still have a direct wire from the headlight switch to the tail light filament of the bulb. It will also have a wire from the brake switch to the brake filament of the bulb. This will make two wires from the brake switch. One to the turn signal switch per the diagram and one to the door light.

For the purpose of following the turn signal switch wiring diagram, consider the left and right rear lights as the lights shown on the diagram. The door light is not shown on that diagram.
Feel free to ask any specific wiring questions as many times as you wish. I understand it can be confusing.

Only brand I see is ”Genuine Parts”. Bought on eBay. I would send you a pic of the wiring diagram on box if I knew how.

OK, read my latest post. See what you think.

Pictures can be done using the attachment manager at bottom left of a post. It will allow you to search your picture files on your computer and select the pics and load them onto the post. If it's a cell phone pic, I don't know about those.

I will search Ebay/internet for it. The wiring is usually all the same. Do you understand the diagram on the box, mostly?

My pleasure. You will have a very modern "third brake light",

Make sure the flasher is 6V. Some kits only supply the 12V flasher. If any.

Rubidu8,

I have the original wiring diagram for the the 1954 Chevrolet panel-body RPO/Accessory turn signal. In 1954/55st, this RPO routed the wiring through the steering column.

I hesitate posting a link to it - it might not help you with your system?

If you want the single barn door light to come ON when you apply the brakes.
You have to run a separate wire from the brake light switch to the barn door light.

When pulling out the headlight switch, do you have a tail light in the barn door light ?

Normally they wired the panel trucks, (that have the rear left and right directional lights)
to just have stoplights on the corners of the vehicle. The barn door light was just a tail light.

You are essentially switching between two sources, the flasher module and the stoplight switch.
If you connect the barn door light to one of the rear signal/stoplight wires,
it would work as a brake light until you used the turn signal switch.
Then the barn door brake light would turn into a directional light.
The problem is the brake light switch goes through the turn signal switch.
Hence the need for a separate wire from the brake light switch to the barn door light.

Note: When running a separate wire from the brake light switch to the barn door light,
and the turn signal switch is IN hazard mode, the barn door light will not be connected to
the flasher circuit, thus will not be flashing. Though will come ON when applying the brakes.

Good info and altruistic indeed but it repeats what I already said.

I sincerely appreciate both of you for this valuable information. Explaining in a couple of ways does help as I am very challenged when it comes to wiring!

I drew up a parking and tail light wiring diagram for the panel truck. (check attached)

While I was looking at the entire 1954 truck wiring diagram.
I was surprised to notice that there was no fuse for the front parking lights circuit.
There are fuses for the rear tail lights and stop lights.
GM must of decided that long run wires needed to be fused and not short run wires.

1947 May have a 5 fuse - fuse block: 1. Upper Beam, 2. Lower Beam, 3. Park, 4. Tail, 5. Stop
47 wiring diagram

The headlight switch does have a thermostatic circuit breaker built in.
So there is some kind of circuit protection for the front parking lights.

I also didn't realize there was a separate terminal on the headlight switch just for front parking lights.
I thought the parking lights and the rear tails light were both connected to the same terminal.

Update: I redid the headlight switch in the wiring diagram, so it jives with the terminals on the 2nd photo headlight switch.
Update: 3rd photo shows added wiring for stoplight switch.

That is awesome. The barn door light is the fly in the ointment for me. This diagram really helps!

Well it's coming from someone who drew/read/used 100's of schematics and wiring diagrams in the past.
Are you using a software?

FIY: The convention of a 180 degree "loop" or a break in the line, when lines cross, is not used in modern times. It is, however, "period correct" for your diagram.
