Is there any difference between rims from a 1954 chevy truck (6 clip) rim and a 1957 chevy truck (3 clip rim) besides the clips. I have a 1957 chevy and wanted to upgrade to 16" rims and saw some 54 chevy 16" rims. Will there be any backspacing issues or will it look off?

The older clip wheels were very narrow and finding tall tires that a reputable tire shop will mount on them is an issue. There are specialty tires for these rims at places like Coker Tire. Expensive. Bottom line is before you buy 1954 rims be sure you can find a tire that actually gives you want you are looking for.
Here are the facts.
1. Either Off Set or Backspace can be used to determine where the wheel/tire will sit under the fenders.
2. Off set is the distance between wheel WMS and the wheel center line.
3. Backspace is the distance between wheel WMS and inside edge of wheel.
4. WMS= wheel mounting surface. Of either the Wheel or the truck drum/disc. Depending on what a person is measuring.
5. The 1954 16" wheel is only 4.5 wide
6. There were 3 wheels available for 1/2 T 1957. Some are VERY hard to find. 15 x 5.5-off set 9/16, 16 x 5-off set 7/16 and 17.5 x 5.25-off set 0.
It seems like going to a 1954 is the wrong way to go. But I don't know what the goal is.
There are many aftermarket rims to check out, but you asked about stock/clips off set. I don't think you would have an off set issue with a 54 rim, if that's the question.
A GM Rally wheel with 31/10.5 x15 tires looks really nice on a 57.

I want to remain "original" but also want to close up the front fender gap on the original trucks if possible. I have 3 - 57 chevy stock 15 inch rims (3 clip) (I will double check the backspacing) and looking for one more (may have found one from a 57 gmc pickup but have to check the width of the rim and backspacing). While I was looking thinking of moving up to 16". Which of the 57 chevy truck rims are hard to find?
