BJF, if you tell us what you are working with, it would help.

i have a 1954 half ton chevy truck speedometer does not work. it has a sm420 4 speed just changed the clutch, fixed the shifter pins . decided to go at the speedometer problem while the trans was out of the truck. so i unscrewed the bullet looking part out of the cover at the back of the trans.( enclosed drive shaft ) now i need to find a working new or used speedometer gear . this trans has a cover over the two bearings the output shaft showing inside the bell with 4 screws onit.

i am just getting old but the mind does work once in a while. PA had a bunch of parts in the barn up-state. took a ride yesterday. low and behold found the part in one of old trannies in his collection. SAT there for a while remembering the old guy bitchin when the wrench slipped and he busted his knuckles . just would wrap them and keep on wrenching .
