My 66 truck had missing the components for the horn at the steering wheel. I installed a new horn kit but the horn activates when I turn the steering wheel. Also, without the steering wheel when I press the column the horn activates too. Please let me know what could be wrong. Thanks
The horn wire inside the column could be worn and shorting against the steering column. It's included with the turn signal wiring. You may need to remove the TS wire loom to find the issue. Fred

Wr - it may very well be the worn wire in the column, but you may also be missing a piece of the puzzle. In photo 3. the 3 screws that hold the horn cup down - they are isolated from the column with a plastic collar of sorts. refer LMC catalog pg 71, upper right corner for blow up of components. Check your parts to make sure you have the plastic ring that keeps the screws from touching. But maybe the plastic ring that shows on photo 1 and 2 does the same? I dont recognize that piece on the steering shaft. Sorry I dont have a good picture for you.

Yes, the plastic piece is in the shape of a ring, originally, it looked more like a nylon ring. It gets put in the there too, as well on the underside of the steering wheel there should be a white plastic piece. This should solve your problems.
Sorry for the delay. I took apart the signal and horn plastic part and I found that the horn wire was making contact with the column. Does any one has a diagram or link for a video for the horn assembly? Thanks for your help.
Very easy understanding after looking to the pictures and explanation. Thanks. What I just found is that the steering is for GMC and later model 67-72, so the pin system that make contact for the horn is different from the chevy 66. I might need to the get the right steering for my truck in order to have the horn working with the original push button. What do you think?
