I need to remove them to refinish. Is it even possible to remove the bed wood with the bed on the truck? Or am I lucky enough to have to completely remove the bed to remove the wood?

Just unbolt the strips on either side of the damaged board and pull it out. The ones that are bolted thru the frame, however, would have to have those bolts removed as well. I still don't think you'd have to remove the bed even for those boards.
