All the other crankshaft dimensions on a GMC six are the same from the 228 to the 302- - - -rod and main bearing sizes, etc. I've got a 228 stashed away I can measure in the morning once it gets daylight outside in the storage shed. The 235 is 3 7/8" diameter at the seal surface. Jerry

OOPS! That 228 still has a bellhousing, clutch, and flywheel installed. If somebody doesn't come up with a dimension for you I can do some disassembly and get the measurement you need. Jerry

Thanks, Bob! I'm going to guess that the flywheel flange on the GMC is larger than the seal area, right? Chevy 216-261 engines use a straight crank hub without an oversized flywheel mounting flange, which is why I can machine the back of the block for a lip seal like a late model Chevy V8, a Ford Powerstroke, and most of the Caterpillar Diesel engines use. My Federal-Mogul shop specifications book lists the size of a std. diameter rear main bearing journal as 2.777" +/- around .0005". That makes the seal surface about 0.100" larger than the rear main. Jerry
