Replacing the front wheel bearings in my truck and I somehow lost track of which way the grease seal is supposed to face. Almost looks like it could go either way but I want to be sure. Manual doesn't make it clear. Can anyone direct me to a diagram or picture (or explain)? Thanks.

If there's a garter spring around the seal lip, that goes toward the bearing. If not, the open area of the seal faces the bearing with the solid sheet metal part toward the spindle.

The lip on the seal needs to point toward the bearings. Unless it's an old style felt seal (not even sure you can get those anymore), in which case it probably doesn't matter.

". . . the open area of the seal faces the bearing with the solid sheet metal part toward the spindle."

That's the way I have it. After reading my original post I wondered how I thought it could go either way. Momentary senility.
