A lot of fear/panic is crossing the country right now and I wish folks would just calm down.
We will survive!
Vicki and I are not changing our lifestyle and I guess I'll just spend that week with her.
Unless Tim still flys in and we take a western road trip?

I am curious as to how this all being perceived by folks that live away from the big city's and in more rural locations. For me, being so (read too) close to Baltimore and DC it is pretty real. Not that it isn't real everywhere....The fewer cars on the road around here is a real eye opener and traffic is usually a constant point of contention. My wife just got back from the grocery store and there wasn't a roll of tp in the store. No eggs either which is odd. What is everyone doing with all the eggs?.
Yep, folks need to calm down and we will all get through this.
I will miss getting together with everyone this year.

Eerie, just eerie. Country music concert (Blake Shelton) cancelled 3 hours before the show. College World Series (not until June) cancelled months in advance for the 1st time ever. No school. Grocery stores cleaned out. Never in my wildest dreams have I ever imagined something like this happening in the USA.

Like I said Billy, The wife and I are still living the same lifestyle.
Living rural, we stay stocked up on everything anyway.
Deep well and a generator if we need it. 20+ gallons of gas for the Gen.
Pantry is full of canned goods. I now have a craving for some spam.
Right now, corned beef is in the crock pot with taters, carrots and onions.
Probably make a beer run later.

Maybe this worldwide epidemic will bring us all together ---we can only hope. Wife and I are definitively changing our routine, given we are in the high-risk category of seniors. We feel like it is just not worth it taking any type of risk.
Went to Costco on Wednesday, and same deal --- no TP. Everyone was stocking up on paper towels (ouch!). But at least they still had beer --- and that's all I really need :😊.

Good on ya Don. We are not as prepared as you but I'm not worried. Yep, I'm doing hat I would have been without the virus, framing my basement and hope to work on the bed of the '50 a little later on.
I just turned 60 and this is definitely something I would never have imagined. We lived close enough to DC during the riots in '68 to remember it affected our family and neighborhood, several blizzards, a few Derechos and of course 911. That being the biggest life changing event. That was different obviously for a lot of reasons but then, you got together with friends or as a group to rally and heal. Not so much now.
Can't even get together to lean on an old Stovebolt fender. Thankfully, we have the Bolt so we can at least do it here.

Well just got the news from Don it will change a few plans but glad we have this form of friendship. Crazy here with the toilet paper I’m up early on a Sunday to walk dog and then go to get tp at supermarket early wife never gets to shop early in morning all gone by afternoon

Wife has worked at Walmart for over 37 years.
She get a one ticket discount for 25% off on all that is on that ticket, every December for a Christmas present.
We stock up on everything, Usually two shopping carts rounded over.
A long gun and ammo are usually also in the cart.
And I still have to make a beer run today though!

I saw something today that has to be one for the record books- - - - - -meat department shelves at a local Wal Mart EMPTY! No hamburger, only the most expensive steaks, and whole beef briskets at around $60.00 apiece on the shelves! A guy stocking the shelves commented "This is like a snowstorm on steroids!" Whole forklift pallets of toilet paper were being emptied as soon as they hit the sales floor- - - no need to put the stuff on the shelf!

Ever seen a grocery basket full to the brim with fresh meat- - - - -being paid for with a SNAP card? There's got to be a tidy profit being made somewhere!

Youngest son just sent us a text. The neighborhood Taco Bell has no inside sales, drive thru only. No matter,Theresa's making a pan of enchilada's and we have plenty of beer.

Just got back from a beer run. Plenty of beer available at the same price.
Went to the local Grocery store in town to pick up some ice cream for the wife.
Plenty of meat and dairy products on the shelves. I did not check the TP aisle though.
Gas prices are getting down near 2 bucks a gallon.
Just put the Cabbage in the crock pot with the corned beef, taters, carrots and onions.
A good Scottish supper is lining up great!

Panic has set in here too. I washed and waxed my truck, Wife went shopping for everyday needs, Kayla had a friend over. No sir, media hyping this up big time. The regular flu is what you need to fear, much worse than what this is being blown totally out. I'm not buying into it at all. Sitting on the front porch watching the world explode over a few sniffles.

Wow, big disappointment gonna miss seeing everybody's projects coming together, especially miss the fellowship, I'm even going to miss Jim,did I say that, better check expiration on my paint mask, to many isocyanates maybe.

I still have the Stovebolt, anti virus, dust mask some where?

I have a nearly full half-gallon handle of Jim Beam. It might help me get over the cancellation of one of the greatest events that I know of.
I may have to go get some more.
I can't say that I am shocked about the cancellation. We have an inordinate number of members in the age group susceptible to respiratory viruses (including the flu, which is just as deadly, BTW).
Still, based on how people are reacting, I can't help but be as skeptical about this bug as I was about Y2K.

Y2K was great for business...we had temperature control systems running via computers in commercial/gov't office buildings, hospitals, schools, universities, etc. and customers were paying us big money to upgrade their systems before the strike of midnight! They even paid us to be on stand-by in the event their system went down...

Somehow this seems worse...maybe it's because I'm a senior citizen now

It is sad that such an event is talked up to the point that everyone's normal life planning gets turned upside down. I hope I'm right with my prediction that this is an extreme over reaction by everyone based on way too much media hype. The "flu' ,as we all know it, kills a whole lot of people each year. I'm doing things right now that I have never done in my life. I have never used hand sanitizer until now. I have washed my hands frequently and try to have good clean habits (for most things) Just stay well and mindful of what things in public that you ae touching. It is a real disappointment that we will not be meeting in a month but I understand !

BTW, a big thanks to the Grigg family and other Stovebolt members for their efforts to host Homecoming this year! It will not go unappreciated - - as next year's will be twice as good!

Thank you Victor for mentioning that. I have been meaning to log on and add my thanks since yesterday.
Even though we were still a month out, I'm sure the planning and prep by the Mullins had already begun. I've held a few much smaller events at our house and have a little bit of an idea of how much work it is. So a huge Thank You to the Mullin Family.

I'm not panicking. I have several of the illnesses that they say will take you out of here if you contract this illness. It's popping up all over North Carolina now, not yet up here in the Blue Ridge, but it will most likely do so eventually. We're headed up to our home in the wilds of Maine about a month early this year. I have plenty of food and ammo. I got a freezer up there filled with deer and moose, trout and salmon-plus a few pounds of scallops. Only house I can see is in Canada across the bay. The best news? One of Maine's only two remaining paper mill is the next town over-there main product? Toilet paper and it is always available locally. I'm sorry I didn't get to see you guys this year. I was of the misunderstanding that you had to be a Virginian to attend. I live three miles from Virginia and my VFW Post is over there. I was straightened out by a kind fella on this forum, See you next year.

Ran the dog today and then went and had a cold one at the local Amvets post in Mokane Mo.
Talked to a couple older guys I have not seen in a while. Mokane had a population of 185 in 2010.
But it does have two bars! If there is an emergency on a Saturday afternoon, Car wreck or Fire.
It cleans out the bar of most of the customers, they are all on the Voluntary Fire Dept!

And, I also would like to thank the Grigg's and Cindy for trying to host this event again!!!
I know it is a lot of work and worry!

Hopefully the KC Reunion will not be canceled!
Maybe some of the ODSS rowdies can make the trip to the Midwest this next September!

Guess I'll have time now to mount that new winch on the trailer.
Then haul a 2-Ton across southern Missouri when it dries out some.

As always - Homecoming has a special place in my heart. The men, the machines and the pictures. Maybe I'll make a "best of" album now that I got an old hard drive to turn again. Im really not sure whats being said and heard in other states than Pa. But from what ive heard, the Virus is probably not going to peak till July or later. Hope im hearing the wrong gossip, but be prepared for the worse. It might be longer than we all think.
