Can anyone recommend a good valve spring compressor for my 216 head. I bought a cheap one from harbor freights but didn't really work out.

Buy a used professional-grade tool on Ebay. Snap-On, Kent-Moore, K-D tools, etc. There are bunches of them there, and they never wear out. I've been using the same air-operated valve spring tool for over 30 years. There's one identical to mine listed under "used valve spring compressor" today for $30.00 along with a bunch of others.

I think it's a Snap-On. I'll need to dig it out of storage, as I haven't used it in a while. It looks identical to the one that's on Ebay. Air power helps out a lot, when someone is doing production work and maybe working on several cylinder heads a day. For a hobbyist, one of the lever action types would be adequate.

Do a quick copy/paste, before the link gets zapped:

Most parts stores have loaners. I used one from one of the local FLAPS on my '216.
