I have a low mileage 350 crate engine with a Weiand spreadbore intake going in a '52 3100 and I need to know where to look for a professionally rebuilt quadrajet. I need to know which one to look for. I want to go with an electric choke, but I have not been able to find a non-electronic Q-jet which comes with the electric choke.
The crate motor is one of those Mr. Goodwrench hecho en Mexico engines which was manufactured in 1992 and is said to be 250 HP.

Have you tried any of the online "hot rod" retailers? Jegs and Summit probably have pages of spread bore carburetors. I know you asked about a rebuilt, but sometimes a new one can be competitive price wise.

Carl - have you considered the aftermarket Carter TQ? With about 150,000 carburetors to choose from, I have one on my own 350. However, since I detest electric chokes, I use a manual choke version.

Sent you a PM

You can put an electric choke coil in a carb that has the round plastic choke. 78-81 models with out electronic controls work good. Put a cap over the vacuum tube.

It's easy to fit an later model choke cover to an early Q-Jet. The problem is finding one for a Chevy engine that has the integral choke in the carburetor. Most of the OEM Chevy carbs have a divorced choke mounted to the manifold heat riser passageway. I have used a carb for a Buick 350 at times, and converted the choke cover to the electric heated type. Don't use the gasket under the cover- - - -it prevents the heater coil from getting a ground, and plug off the vacuum port to prevent a constant leak. Route the voltage through an oil pressure switch so the choke heat shuts off in case the engine stalls during warmup.
