Hi; I'm thinking back. In about 1985-1987 I restored a 1953 Chevy and I'm curious if it's still out there. It was sold to a person in San Ramon California. The most unique feature to identify it was the dash. The Radio hole had been cut and cobbled several times before I bought it. At that time I welded in a plate with three recessed Stewart Warner gauges: Water Temp, Amps and Oil Pressure into the radio hole. The gauges were angled toward the driver like the 280Z's of the time. I placed the radio in a compartment below the gauges and used the speaker grill as the door. It also had a welded on Barton bumper on the back. I'm just curious if it might still be out there some where?

Sounds like a cool truck. Anymore details? Color? Wheels? Interior? Do you have any pictures you can post?

I have wanted to find a few of my old trucks too. But it can be really hard, especially when you or it leave the area. Or 30 years have passed. Good luck.

It had a three speed on the column shift. It had black with gray stripes in the seat. The exterior was a burgundy and the dash interior was black. The inside door color was the same as outside. The gas tank was still behind the seat. It has a later model 235. We poured rear transmission mounts because it was hard bolted the cross member when I bought it. I fit speakers in the top rear of the cab. Would be fun to know if it still survives. Funny to think it would need to be restored again now.

Do you have the sales receipt still? Showing the name and phone number of the buyer?

A good thing to do is IF you have the vin # is to go to a SMALL town and ask Clara or Barney to trace your truck. It works every time for me but, I live in a small town. If it's out there it can be found. However if it was sold with out a title (some people take an old vehicle and get a home made title), works in Florida and many other states. It is not unheard of for some people to have a title and register one that has no title. Good luck if it has the original title still on record, it can be found. OR it can be a 1951 etc. Chevy of any size any type. State DOT does not keep track so therefore the Fed DOT does not either. From an old guy that used to work for DOT. Doc
