HELLO everyone. I am new to the group. Just purchased and striped a 1950 chevy 3100 to the frame. I am having the frame blasted and powdercoated. I want to drop the truck about 3 inches. I know I can get blocks for the rear. Is there a way to drop the front without spending $350 on new drop springs?

I thought about taking some leaves out but heard thats not too safe. But then again, this is going to be a show truck and not an every day driver.

You can have spring shop reverse the eyes on the main leaf, that should be good for 1" +, that with a couple of leaves removed should get you the ride height your after.

I didn’t trust my old springs, so I didn’t remove any. I had my axle bent by Sid since I drive mine whenever it’s not raining.

I have a 4" drop axle by Sid on my 59', really nice product. If I have to do it again I don't believe I would go with a 4" drop, with 235/60R15's up front the axle is pretty close to the ground. A 2"or 3" drop would be a better choice. I did remove 3 leaves on each spring up front, the chassis is really low. I am still up in the air about the ride height, I may replace the springs completely and just reverse the eyes if I want to go lower.

I’m with you, I went 4” and should have gone 3” on my 51. Jerry pulled me aside at homecoming and lectured me on removing springs, so they went back on that week!

I had a local fabricator make me a couple of 3" lowering blocks. They're 1 3/4" wide so they fit nicely on the original rear springs, '50 3100. Glad I didn't go any lower. The stance looks great albeit with 14" "rollers" for now. 18" will eventually be the wheel of choice for the rear...17" in the front coupled with an IFS.

Sid at dropped axle sells lowering blocks, ubolts, etc.

Eaton Detroit springs will make you whatever you need without compromising safety and performance.

Can you use the 3 inch lowering blocks they sell for the back and use them in the front?

No, you can’t because in the front, the axle is below the springs and the back is on top.

Also was thinking 17" wheels in the front and 18" in the rear. Right now trying to figure out if these will fit the front:

Thinking about them with a 225/55/17 tire. I have a 53' with Sids 3" drop axle.

Here is a side shot of mine with stock rims and 4” drop in the front. You might need to consider rubbing when turning.
