For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 262 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 262 | Just finished puting Heidts Econo a-arms in my '49 with mustang II front end. Now when I'm turning left at low speed (like backing out of my driveway) it makes a popping noise in the right front. Also does it when braking and almost stopped. Anybody have any ideas where to start looking? Or should I just cut my losses and put this whole front end in the scrap heap where it belongs! Thanx

These are the 2 bolts that attach the a-arm to the chassis and are the alignment adjustment in the original application. The left turn you are getting is the caster/ camber changing when the right arm is shifting. Get the arms as close to even as you can and torque the to at least 100 ft/lbs, then get it aligned to specs. Heidt should be able to give you specs for your application. Make sure to tell the alignment mechanic to torque the arms after it is set to prevent re-occuace of the problem. This problem is common to vehicles that use that style adjustnent if they are not tightened properly.

CHECK ALL YOUR BOLTS. IF YOU DECIDE TO JUNK IT I WILL GLADLY PAY THE SHIPPING. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 262 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 262 | Thanx for the git-backs. NM51, the ball joints are brand new. They came with the a-arms and I made sure to grease them good. Long box 55, I'm pretty sure the bolts on the uppers (if that's the ones you mean) are good and tight. Just had it aligned 2 weeks ago and checked again yesterday and everything was fine with that. John Romero, I used 2 spacers between the spindle and the castle nuts like it showed in the instructions. The crossmember kit isn't a Heidts. I got it from a local manfacturer, who makes them to the same specs as Heidts and Fatmans. This has really got me stumped. Only seems to do it on the right side. Got to looking a couple minutes ago at the sway bar. The end pieces between the end of the swat bar itself and the lower a-arm are at a pretty sharp angle instead of pretty much straight up and down. Was noticing this morning it really leaned going around this one sharp curve. Wonder if that could be my culprit. Thanx much, guys. There's a wealth of knowledge out there.
