DON'T DO IT!!!

Learned the hard way this past week. I had some minor pitting on the underside of my hood that I couldn't get clean so I thought I'd use Eastwood's Rust Enscapulator as a base coat and then seal it in with SPI's epoxy primer. I let the enscapulator cure for 48 hours and then sprayed the epoxy over. Couple days later I go back and stop doing some hammer an dolly work on some hail damage dings and found that the epoxy primer flaked off. I was even able to take a air hose with a blow gun and blow ALL of the epoxy off the areas where I used the enscapulator. Just came off in huge flakes.

I use SPI's epoxy paint and love it, but don't go spraying it over any kind of rust converter. I know on their website they specifically state to not use any kind of rust converters, but I guess I had it in my mind that the rust enscapulator paint was fine to paint over. I guess I also figured that since Eastwood states to topcoat it with their primer it would be fine. I was pretty bummed when I was realizing this but oh well.

Well......., top coat is not primer. The most I've put SPI over is filler. And even now I'm doing less of that! Bare steel only!

The lucky part was that it was a TOTAL adhesion failure. Easy fix.

I don't remember the time period but after a certain amount that encapsulator has to be sanded just like a lot of under coatings/primers.
This was bugging me so I checked my can and it says to sand after 36 hrs.HTH
