Hello Stovebolters,

I use to be a regular around here about 15 years ago. I spent about five years rebuilding a 1966 Chevy C60 grain truck. I got the old girl looking nice and spent evenings driving it through the countryside near our farm. Well, one day the accelerator stuck and the engine spun a bearing. So much for that. When that happened, finances got a little tighter, my city job got a little more demanding and my mother-in-law needed care so we took her in. So, the C60 sat and sat and sat.

Finances are better now, I retired from the city job, have sold most of the farm equipment and Momma has passed on to her reward. The Chief Financial Officer of this outfit does not think we should spend any more money on the truck and at this point in my life, neither do I. I no longer have interest in working on the truck. We travel a lot now and have other interests.

So my question for you good folks, is what should I do with the C60? Should I just scrap it and take a huge financial loss? Should I try and sell it whole? Should I dismantle it and sell it for parts? It is complete with a 292, four speed manual tranny, two-speed rear end, modern wheel rims with new tires(at the time) and a full steel flat bed with a twin hoist dump. The quick Rustoleum paint job I put on it has mostly flaked off and rust is started to show back on all the panel work I did. I had put about $10,000 into it when it was finished.

Looking to you good folks for some advise.

What say?

Thanks in advance for you advise.

I think you will find a buyer as is. Engine work won't scare anyone away.

If finances are not the problem and you don't want to work on it then sell it "at a loss" in hopes to save it.

If you want top dollar perhaps pull the pan, pull the rod caps. IF only one journal is scored perhaps the crank can be polished in the truck, and a new bearing put in.

.........I say this because i purchased a coupe with a totally new rebuild that had only ONE journal that spun the bearing and locked it up. I will admit I did pull the engine suspecting the PO had not been totally honest with me. It was brand spanking new inside and even though I disassembled it I would not have had to if I'd only pulled the pan. I saw my father do this on more than one occasion and the engines ran great afterwards.
Still, your decision..........but I bet its cold in Indy!!

.........OH, my engine was locked up because the engine builder did not put the oil pickup tube/screen on when he rebuilt it.

I'm sure someone would love to take over where you left off.

Put a for sale ad in the Swap Meet Forum as mentioned above.

A picture or two would be great too.

Put it up for sale, I'm sure someone would scoop it up! Either to rebuild the engine and drive it as is, or put the cab and front clip on a different frame.

Plus I don't understand why'd you want to scrap it after saying you got it looking nice big_eek

I would think it is worth a lot more to sell it outright.
Post it in the Swap meet with a lot of pictures and a good, full description.

If you do Facebook, you can also join this group and list it there.

Achipmonk,

The truck is still here. Have not decided what to do with it yet. Contemplating getting it running. Don't know yet>

If you post it for sale and get one of the ODSS folks to buy it.
TPR57C and I can take a northern route to the homecoming and deliver it.

Myself, I am at the age to downsize and travel more.
But I will still be a member of this site!
