Hey guys love the site. Im sure that you have heard or answered the question a hundred times but i am new to this stuff so here goes. I am currently the proud owner of a '46 3/4 ton. The main things i want to do are 350 engine swap and i would like to put disc brakes on the front. I would also like to maintain the 8 lug wheels if possible. Does anyone have experience with this? what kind of part will i need? and what should i look for or look out for when buying engine, tranny, brakes? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Raymonds Do a search on both topics and you will find lots of ideas, comments, and history. It gets down to personal preference of do you install a clip, MII kit from various manufacturers, or junkyard specials with ingenuity. Anything can be done depends on your skill level and status of funds in Hip Pocket National Bank. Good luck

I'm pretty much finishing up doing that in my 53 1/2 ton.I don't know if that's close enough, but I could tell you what I did ,if you can't get a 46 guy to tell you.I think it's probably close enough.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have found an aftermarket that with a little modification will work to mount the v8. The biggest problem is figuring out the brakes. I would like to retain the stock suspension. Just dont have a ton of knowledge of what kind of aftermarket or junk yard parts could be made to work.

I used to restore 55-57 Chevy cars and found that the way the engines mounted was fine ,even with 450 HP. So I decided to mount my small block the same way in my 53. I used the trany cross member from a 73-77 Chevelle/Cutlass/Monti/etc. for my front. It's extremely heavy duty and much stronger than the flimsy after market ones and it helps to strenthen the frame. If you use the 55-57 front mount system ,you will find that all the angles to mount are exactly right. All you have to do is hold the mount with the bend facing forward so as to clear the damper on the front of the engine. Have it with a 1 1/2" gap to the front motor mount cross member that is there. Then measure the width of your frame where it is intersecting the Chevelle cross member and cut the cross member 1/2" narrower. Then flaten the tubing to 1/2 the original thickness. Weld two pieces of plate on the ends so as to bolt thru the frame sides.
