I'm moving my rear shock absorbers inside the frame on my 1950 3100. What have you fellow stovebolters done in the way of fabricating upper shock mounts for this type of application?
I used a C shaped piece of channel steel ( I like curves ), welded a big bolt in , with a web for support , bolted it thru the chassis , similar to how the original was bolted (thru the vertical wall , not the top or bottom flange) .
Im just getting ready to do this same thing. My truck originally had lever shocks out back and im goin to run a conventional gas shock. Need to weld mounts on the axle and build something off the frame. The above pic basically is what i had in mind.

I'm working on the same thing as well. I was hoping to get away with not welding on the diff. Going to try to make up some brackets that use the u bolts for the axle
You don't have to weld anything onto the axle. Use the U-bolts to attach a plate for the shocks. My plates are from the same Camaro the axle came from.
