These were really popular back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s when vehicles still had a 'real bumper'. I'd like to find a good used one. Anyone still using an air bumper jack?

Air Bumper Jack

You betcha. Dad has one in his shop and we use it all the time. Tractors, bobcats, trailers, etc. We do use it on vehicles too, but most of Dad’s vehicles are old enough that they have a real bumper, not plastic covering a little tiny piece of flat bar.

I have one in my shop. It's a pretty old one I use it for lifting only long enough to get blocks or jack stands under whatever. Way better than a floor jacking my opinion.. I sold a c store that had a tire shop in it so I got mine for nothing basically.

I bought a Gray 350 7K air bumper jack from a county auction a couple of years ago. Gave $150.00 for it, had to replace a caster and add some tubes to the tires. Works great, it's just to tall for most of what I work on. Fits right under the receiver hitch on my 93' K1500 makes it so easy to get work done.

Ha. I always wanted 1. So on a mission I go.... Found 1 on CL for $100 I think. Anyhow when I was doing my 261 transplant along with trans, clutch, and rear diff replacement into my 51 sdn, I thought it would a good idea to get my car as high as I could. Then use jackstands of course. Well it was close to the top of the bumper jack height and made the work much easier. Now completed, it was time to reverse the procedure and lower the car back to the ground. I picked up the front of the car and removed stands, tried to lower car when the jack decided to break. But didn't fall, thankfully, it stuck at the top. Even with the air disconnected, just stuck. Wasn't real fun trying to jack up a car 4 feet off the ground to get the stuck jack out from the bumper. Lol. I never did fix it . I actually cut a piece of steel off it for something or other. Still sitting in the corner, stuck at the top of its travel. Ha. Probably won't buy another one tho

The one I have will settle against the safety catch pretty quick. In. Fact I just out of habit give it a little air to go up before I release the safety catch.

We have two that we use often in conjunction with the two post and four post lifts. If using with the two post say for a motor mount change, the second one is at the back to keep the suspended vehicle from tipping. Have all sorts of brackets that bolt to the top of the air jack for anything heavy that needs lifted up in place from the underside (rear end, trans, etc). On the four post we use the top of the jack to lift one end for brake/tire/suspension work. Safe and fast.
