I am using the factory oil cooler adapter on my 350 SBC but will need to run hose from the adapter to the cooling unit. Can I use fuel line hose for this application? The distance is about 42 inches from filter to cooler.

I think that I would investigate getting a piece of metal tubing bent to fit. I think that a piece of hi-temp plastic tubing would be ok, but if it was my truck and it was going to be a permanent thing I would get metal tubing. my $.02

I have found the answer. Do not use any hose other than oil service hose. Heater hose or fuel line hose will not last very long. Now all I have to do is find a source. Same hold true for transmission cooler lines.
Metal tubing would be nice but I do not have the cooler location fixed yet. That will have to wait until the front sheet metal is in place. After bending brake lines the only thing I want to bend at this point is my elbow bringing my scotch on the rocks to the correct point of entry.

You would be better off not having the oil cooler if there is no thermostat on the oil line. Modern oils will work well at high temperatures but don't do as well at less than 180-200 degrees. Premature wear would be one result of too cool oil temps.

Fort Knox, you really don't want hard lines from the engine to the cab or chassis; metal fatigue and failure would be the most likely result.

The oil cooler adapter I am using is the same as the one on my 94 suburban. I credit it and good maintenance with that engine lasting for 235K so far without a rebuild. I believe the adapter has a thermostat integrated into its design but will confirm with a GM service manager I know.

Moroso sells an oil thermostat that prevents oil to the cooler when the oil is below 180 degrees F. Summit sells it for $39. Might be a good investment if you're running an oil cooler.

I just bought a flexible rubber oil cooler line yesterday at Autozone. Inside diameter was 15/32 (my OEM line is 1/2) and it fits like a glove. It's made for oil too so no worries about it eating through the hose. I paid .99 a foot....
