I'd like to put a cross bed tool box on my 53 one ton, but all the boxes I've seen are about 2" too wide to fit in there. The bed is 50" wide and the narrowest boxes I've seen are 52" or more. Anyone have an idea where to find something like that?

Here are a few 50" or less wide?

today I went to Lowes, Home Depot, and Orschelns (local farm and home type) and looked at tool boxes. All of the 61 1/2" boxes I found measured at least 50 1/2" across the part that drops into the bed, which is 1/2" too wide.

Surely someone makes a narrower box.

The link only had one cross bed box, and it was the same one I looked at at Lowes. I guess I'll have to build one the size I need.

A box made for a Ranger or Dakota might work, but it will take some work. The drop down part can be narrowed a few inches, and the pieces cut off can be rotated and reworked to fill-in the ends...

I was ignorant of the term "cross bed" (meaning cross bed-sides). Very few of the beds that I linked-to provide side-to-side inside bed dimension.

I will check the brand/model of my "toy" 2001 Ford Ranger's cross-bed hanging-over-the-sides cross-bed tool box (48" wide interior bed).

I have a cross bed tool box for my Chevy Colorado, which I thought would fit, but it is 1/2" too wide, just like all the others I have found so far. And it is frustrating that very few show the inside width of the box.

As soon as I get finished with the garage I'm building (to put my 53 truck and my tractor in) I'm going to start building a box. Maybe paint it with the paint left over from the truck!

I made my comment about the Ranger box because I had a 2000 Ranger with a box at the same time I had a 50 3600. The drop-down portion of the Delta alum box was about 1-1/2" too wide to fit in the Chevy, as I recall. The overall width was almost exactly the same as the width across the outside of the bed rolls (tubes). So, the mod I suggested would make it fit the Chevy and not look too bad. I lacked the tools or skills to make the mod. Your mileage my vary.

Back in the day when step-side trucks were still being made, almost all the box manufacturers sold boxes for that application, and there are probably some still out there sitting in somebody's barn or garage...

I was incorrect regarding my Ranger across-bed-top Storage Box.
The storage width is a little over 50".
