Hello, I just purchased a 1946 WP Ser #DEA70589. I've tried to determine the engine size but some of the info I've found is somewhat confussing.

Also, there is a spacer under the carb that has a vacuum line to it and also a butterfly in it. Need to know what it is and what it does.

I was told that is a govenor there under the carb. Can someone tell me what it should be set at and how?

My 54 with a 235 had one on the truck when I got it and I took it off and if I remember right I had to buy a spacer that is original to the truck.I cannot remember if I had to change the studs .

Looking at your pictures I don’t remember mine having the lines that you have attached .

This is confusing. I found this here on the Forum. This says that engine "DEA70589" is a babbited 235

The VIN tag says "Certified net HP of engine 83.5 at 3000 RPM

The Serial number on the Title matches the engine.

Which is correct?

Kevinski, A vacuum line runs from the back side of the carb to the governor and another runs from the governor to the distributor.

Makes sense as this truck was originally bought and operated by the City of York Nebraska.

I would expect that this truck was also equipped with a hydrovac brake booster. If so there would be a large vacuum line running from the manifold below the carb to the firewall and down under the cab to the brake booster. The photo appears that your's has such a vacuum line. You should check the condition of said line as it's important for the brakes. It may also have a vacuum reserve tank mounted on the frame. Some of the two-tons were equipped to pull trailers with vacuum brakes. Truck tractors were all set up this way. On a straight truck, there would be a pintal hitch and glad hands at the rear; and if so it would doubtless have had a two-speed axle.

1Ton, yes, it has the Hydrovac and vacuum canister on the frame. I pulled all the wheels and installed new brake cylinders and also the master. The brake shoes were like new. It all appears to work well as the brakes apply even and the pedal only goes down about 2" with strong braking. There is no hitch or glad hands. I was told this city owned truck was used to haul tree limbs and such. Not sure when the cab markers, fog lights and heater were installed, but they all work and look like they've been on for a long time. I was told that the FFA kids did a "clean up" and re-paint as a group project in the 70's. It doesnt look bad and would explain why the hood is black when it should be red. It's Corn husker colors for sure. No two-speed axle. I've only had it for about 3 weeks. It will be fun to work on. I've taken several 50 mile tours through the country side with no issues.
