The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk 56 exhaust pipe routing

I am trying to determine where the exhaust pipe is supposed to run aft of the muffler on my 56-3200 with 235 engine. Presently it ends with a turn down right after the muffler and forward of the axle. The assembly manual seems to show it crossing over to the right hand side of the bed (section 8, sheet 12, drawing 3204-3600). I do not understand why they would run it that way and have to cross the drive shaft and then the axle. My spare is on the side, behind the drivers door, and the gas tank is in the cab, so nothing is under the bed to have to route around other than the axle and shock absorbers. I have looked under the bed, and have not found any brackets that might show where it ran in the past. I would like to find out what is original, and also, what others have done that worked for them.

I see the reference in the assembly manual but I have worked on many of them and have never seen one with that configuration.
All the 3200 and 3600 models I have seen are positioned like the 3100 diagram. I can't say the diagram is incorrect but it looks like a lot of monkey motion and does not accomplish anything. Even if you were intending to go to a 1000 point show, I doubt anyone would know the difference. I would run the system down the left side over the axle and be done with it.
