How does the odometer break down (1950 GMC). Do the brass washers/retainers pull off the shaft on the ends (attached photo with red arrows)? I wanted to find out the right way before I took a pair of channel locks to it. I’m familiar with the speedo rebuild tech tip, it doesn’t tell how to actually disassemble the odometer to get the wheels off the shaft. Any help would be appreciated.
Turns out I didn’t need to disassemble it to roll it back to zero. It can be done by playing around with the wheels for 5 mins or so to figure it out, not to difficult.
Depends. If you do, you'd likely have to notify your DMV to put some sort of notation on your title. It matters when you transfer the title. Falsely representing the mileage of a vehicle for sale is illegal in most, if not all, jurisdictions.
