I have a 61 apache that I just swapped in a 350 crate motor about 260 hp. I currently have the 3 on the tree. Does anyone know which 5 speed will work best in this application. Will it need any modification other than for the shifter?

The easiest one to put in is the T-5 from a S-10.It might be a little light for that horsepower. Many of the bolters on this websight are running them. There is some good info in the tech tip section & there has been many posts on it. You can find alot of info doing a search.

61, did you buy a complete 350 crate eng? and if you dont mind saying what the cost was?..I have a 5 speed s-10 with my 235,, the shop that did my work and they also do a lot of bracket racing stated that a s-10 was a lot tougher then some give credit for, stated the he even runs them in one of his drag cars, I am no expert but unless you just abused the heck out of it,the s-10 might be one chose, I am sure others will chime in, I had rather have an automatic..............Fred

A big part of how adequate a driveline part will be when used behind a given powerplant is how it will be used.

I've seen some very stout transmission fail because they were abused. I can imagine my mother making a T-5 last forever behind a 572.

How do you expect to drive? If you aren't going to 'hot rod' it you might be fine. If you're going to work it, I would not expect that transmission to last.

Joker: Sallee Chevrolet lists a Goodwrench 350 starting at about $1500. Goodwrench 454 is just over $4000. I checked these numbers for a friend just the other day. These were replacement type motors, not performance motors.

The 89 on back are the best ones to use. They have the correct speedo hookup. 200 doesn,t sound bad to me. They are $75 at the pull it yourself stores but you have to crawl under & remove it yourself. My Goodwrench 350 was $1290 till they start adding tax & other charges. It came close to $1500. Great package. I put this one in a 70 stepside with a 700-4R. Drives beautiful.

That right Joker the entry level goodwrench 350 is about 1400.00 plus tax and plus shipping depending on where you buy it from. This is for a long block. You will still need; Flywheel, carb and intake, water pump, fuel pump, har. balancer, etc. Some venders also put together complete packages with all these components that will save you a little if you need all these things.

I will drive the truck sensibly most of the time. But I will probably light them up every once in a while. Thanks

You might be fine for years. Or it might bite the big one first time you light them up...

At $200 I'd probably take the chance and just make sure I knew where the next one was going to come from. Of course if you can't afford time for repairs, you might want to keep the egg in place on the gas pedal!
