Hy Philipj, I cannot confirm your description matches that of part number 071841 which was used up to 1956. The part number does not cross at Napa's website nor is there a description in any of my parts books which I checked, sorry about that.

My experience with NAPA's website is pretty poor when it comes to old stuff. Check at the counter with a human in a local store, they are much better at this sort of thing.

Hi there,

Well, I can only be sure that it is a 9/16" x 18, but I'm not sure about anything else, such as the length or knurled area dimensions... Funny thing that everything I find mentions a 7/16" diameter stud, but I know for fact that is not the case for a big truck... Never knew how hard it would be to find such basic information...

I ask myself, could this be it?

Maybe I missed something, do you have an old stud to measure? How thick are the wheel flange, brake drum and wheel? What size is the hole the knurl fits in?

NAPA has a book with studs in it with life size pictures and all the dimensions. Same thing for the nuts. They seem to have several lengths for a given thread size and knurl. I have never seen any of that on line.

I found 1/2" studs to replace the 7/16" originals on my '62 K10 when I put disc brakes on it, right out of their book. Same thing when I put metric studs in my trailer to match my 2000 Silverado.

My 1929-1951 Parts book shows the following;

5.812 Front Hub Bolt-Stud

1930-1942 ALL UTILITY (exc. LR)...hub....3683850

See the chart pictured for the dimensions...

Hope this helps,

Hello Mike,

Thank you very much for the information... The one detail I was trying to find also is the width of the knurled area...I believe that the chart mentions the length of the knurled area but not the width... If you were to drill new holes for installation, how much would you have to go under size 1/32?

The closest that I can find is from Napa, NOE 6411295, but I don't know if the wheel bolt knurled diameter of 0.654" is the same as the original... Another possible choice and closer to the original GM 3683850 is found below...

You need parts (new and old) in hand and measure to make those decisions.
It'd be a bummer to guess wrong on the hole size and not have the studs fit when you finally got them.
You can even do a test hole in something else and see how one fits before modifying drums/hubs.

Before any of that be sure you can't find the originals first.

Hello George,

Thank you very much for the help, I will give him a call tomorrow. In the meantime, I was trying to find his website but no luck... I will definitely take the 7 he has if still available...

Philipj ,

Still doing some internet hunting for these rare bolts .

They were discontinued by GM in 1981 .

You never know whats going to turn up .

Dan in Montana has a napa store as his main business .

He also buys & sells old time GM parts .

I've purchased many parts from him over the years...........always good stuff .

Send Bruce Bugay in Virginia an email .

Tell him what you need & include the part # .

[email protected]

I've purchased many many parts from Bruce............always top notch parts .

Stop in any Chevrolet dealer parts dept .

ask them to do a nationwide parts search ........bring the part # .

Hello George,

I really appreciate the two contacts for parts... My biggest frustration regarding the truck is finding parts. If it is not 47 and up, pretty much you can forget about it online... I am hoping that these to guys can be my main source for used parts... Again, thank you very much for going the extra mile here.

There are lots of bolts around, finding the dimensions and finding a real one are different, like Grigg says get one in hand to measure and make your own hole for test fit if necessary.

Hi Phillipe. Did you ever find a source for these 3683850 wheel studs? I tried Dan’s but they were out. I only need one but they have a 11/16 knurl which is hard to find.

Hello Charles,

I did not find as many as I needed (10), only two of which I lost one! I can have another look and see if I can locate, which you can have... I ended up using a NAPA stud, p/n 641-3137 which is about 1/8" longer than the original. I did not mind that since I was adding 5 extra studs per side, so it would look even...

Please remind me tomorrow afternoon, if I still have it it is yours.. Best, Philippe

Thanks Phillipe. However, I think I already found one from Bruce at [email protected]. It’s good to have the NAPA part number though in case I’m stupid enough to break any more.

No problem, the good thing is that I have one if you need it, I found it! Soon after the last post I was determined to find it, for I hate losing stuff...I have it if you get into a bind.
