Hey guys first post on this forum. I just acquired a new to me 1949 Chevy 4400. I was able to check plugs and shot some PB Blaster down each cylinder, checked oil, and figured out I'm dealing with a neg ground 12v system. I hooked up a battery today and poured some gas down the carb and it fired right up. Now I'm trying to figure out what engine I have so I can order carb kit for a rebuild. I've been to the serial number checker and ran into issues immediately. Here is the serial number that is behind the distributor. What I'm reading is AGEA128534 but doesn't match up to anything.

I found the casting number today. 3701481
It has a Rochester B stamped 7013029 on the tag.
Head casting is 3701887

This is all new to me but I think I have a 1953 235 motor. Can you confirm?

I took a hard look at the carburetor last night and appears to be a Rochester Model B. There is the little tag on it and it reads 7013029. A little research online shows it to be for a 235. The valve cover is the two bolt in the middle type design.

That's your original engine serial number hand stamped on a 1953/54 235 rebuilt replacement engine.

AGEA = 1949 4000 series w/ RPO-225 (HD Engine).
