I just saw something like this in a pic that a friend sent me. Ive never seen one like it before last week. Normally they are the 2 pieces of angle iron and the round stock welded to a triangle with studs. Im curious on what the one for a 3/4 ton would look like since the pattern is different that a 1/2 ton. Im about to make one for my 3/4 ton.
The FAM has a couple diagrams of the side mount spare. RPO 341. Section 10, Sheet 3.00 and 3.01 But the FAM being '54, it shows the flat top bedsides. Angle brackets bolted to the bed side and rods bolted to it and the wheel plate. I think lots of people invented their own style, which is probably what's pictured above. Or maybe there were aftermarket suppliers back then.

Thanks guys. I knew the side mount wasn't available in 47, but my wife really likes the look so I'm planning on doing it. Suppose I should see if a wheel fits it before going further. Looking for a fender. Don't think I have the ability or nerves to modify the existing fender.
