I'm trying to get my front brake assembly's completely off to get to the king pin set so I can rebuild it all from the axle out. I've removed the hub and drum. Was able to remove the top 2 bolts of the 4 that hold the backing plate on but I can not figure out how to get the two bottom bolts out? Yes, I have removed the cotter pins and taken the nuts off. They will not turn, even when I put an impact on them? Is the steering rod that they go through threaded or after I remove the nuts should they just come on out? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hy Stroehlman, welcome, If my memory is correct those bolts should turn and come out, they are probably impacted by a fine dust and rust that has accumulated in the last sixty five years. Good luck getting them out!

Soak the fastener in PB blaster or some other penetrant for a few days. That should help dissolve the rust. If that doesn’t work try heating the nut.

In addition to the nut there are spacers between the backing plate and the steering yoke that also get rusted on the bolt. I needed to heat those spacers to get them off too.
