After many years of service, my spider gears on the differential are beginning to chip. I am not aware of anyone making replacement gears. So, it looks as if I need to scout out the wrecking yards for good replacement gears. What range of years are interchangeable for spider gears on a 1956 Chevy ½ ton? My best guess is 1955-1962. Does anyone know if this correct?

I really do not want to do a rear end swap since the brakes, 3.38 ring and pinion and bearings are in excellent condition.

It seems late 12 bolt spiders fit right in but you'll need modified 12 bolt axles. However, there are at least 2 different types of side gears and I'm not sure which carrier will fit the 12 bolt ones. I replaced the drop out in my '55 1st series with an early '60's 3.38 and the side gears were different. I had to mix and match the parts a bit. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. I will give Tom’s differential a call for more information. It looks as if it is a viable option. So far, I have found a 58 and 55 in the local wrecking yards; unfortunately, the spider gears were in worse condition than mine were.
