| | | | Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 280 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 280 | well you know those times when you have one project stalled, one project done, one waiting to start and you're not sure what to do? well that was me, and what did i do? i bought another 1950 3100! hahahah. this one is different I told her, this one is going to run all original. So, that is what I am doing. I have the motor turning and the starter is good, but i seem to have sprung a leak in my oil pan through something like a nail hole. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement oil pan? I have been looking online but perhaps I am not searching the correct terms. Oh, and of course I am not trying to pay 300 plus for an oil pan. you can get these motors complete for that money.

It sounds like maybe one of the bolts or rivets holding the dipper troughs to the pan might have gotten loose and fallen out.

| | | | | Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 280 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 280 | turns out I had 1/2 a dozen pin or nail sized holes in the pan when all was said and done. I simply welded them all up, leak checked it and reinstalled it with a new gasket. leak free as of yet.

The troughs only supply oil to the rods at idle. Once the oil pump volume increases at cruise speed, a stream of oil squirts straight across the pan and it must hit the rod dippers as they get close to the bottom of their stroke. It's not uncommon to burn a rod bearing due to lack of lubrication if a nozzle gets bent.
