My C-60 with a SM420 transmission has a PTO to run the dump bed. The PTO is an A series (replaced by 100 series) Chelsea made by Dana (Spicer)

Does anyone know where I can find a parts book and or rebuild kit for a 1960’s Chelsea PTO made by Dana? I have searched to no avail.

There's not much to rebuild...

The seals will have a number stamped on it.

Roller/ball bearings will have numbers on them...if they are bushings and they are worn you can have new ones made at a machine shop

You can make a gasket the same thickness as the original one (gasket acts as a shim to put the gear in a good mating location with the drive gear).

If the shaft is worn, take it to a machine shop and have a new one made.

If the gear is worn, buy another used PTO unit with a better gear. Just make sure the replacement PTO came off of a SM-420 as the driven gears are custom to the make/model of the trans they are bolted to.

Thanks Mike. I’m mainly looking for a parts book. As a side note, this unit has needle type roller bearings for the shaft.

For those interested, here is a manual of sorts from 1972 for all the Chelsea PTO ‘s at the time.

Useful document, shows the adapter gear for my Spicer 5553a trans., will not hold still enough to print though.

Thanks for sharing the document. If your old PTO proves to be unrebuildable, I have a nearly new Chelsea that was on a SM420 that I would let go.
